Even though there are enormous costs associated with the largest oil spill in American history, BP continues to net a daily profit. In the first quarter of 2010, BP earned profits of $5.6 billion. Recent estimates as of May 29th suggest costs for containment and cleanup to be 940 million dollars. That equates to $23.5 million a day over a forty day period since the spill began. Compare this to an average of $62 million per day of profits for the 1st quarter. Using these figures BP is still netting $38.5 million a day while oil continues to gush into the gulf.
